Schalast Guides German UDS on Brandenburg Admission Law
Schalast advised the German University of Digital Science (German UDS) in Potsdam on academic, corporate, and tax law. Led by Dr. Thorsten Voß and Dr. Matthias Geurts, the team helped secure state recognition from Brandenburg.
The German UDS, founded by professors Mike Friedrichsen and Christoph Meinel, is Germany’s first fully digital university. State recognition was granted in early 2025, allowing graduates to earn officially recognized degrees. This marks the first digital German university with state recognition in Europe. On April 1, 2025, the university began operations.
Schalast supported key legal matters, including forming the non-profit sponsoring company, creating tax concepts, and navigating the recognition process.
Dr. Voß stated that working with German UDS on their vision for digital education was rewarding. Prof. Friedrichsen and Prof. Meinel emphasized the importance of state recognition in advancing digital education and setting new standards. The university aims to combine academic excellence with global reach to transform digital learning.
