Two Dutch patent litigators have set up their own firm in Amsterdam. Jelle Drok and Arvid van Oorschot have launched Driven Lawyers, which describes itself as an AI-native law firm in which technology and AI are integrated into its work and operations as fully as possible – “not merely as a tool, but as the foundation of how we work”. The firm practises from Jacob Bontiusplaats 9 in Amsterdam under the motto “Human first, tech driven”.

The two founders have built their own software platform, which they call the Driven Drafter. According to the firm, the platform connects its practical knowledge with the right sources so that AI can be used responsibly to draft legal documents, and lets the team verify every factual and legal assertion it makes on a client’s behalf and anchor each one to a source the client can open and check. Driven Lawyers says this leads to higher quality and cost savings for the client, while greater emphasis is placed on the human side of the work: client contact, judgement, creativity in strategy and argument, ethics, and checking the AI.

The firm also breaks with hourly billing. Driven Lawyers agrees a fixed price with the client in advance and holds to it, even when a matter takes more hours than estimated. As the firm puts it, the risk of inefficiency shifts from the client to the firm, “where it belongs”. Its practice covers national and international litigation, intellectual property law, and contract and liability law, with experience in resolving commercial disputes in and out of court, drafting contracts and providing strategic advice.

Both founders bring more than twenty years of practice at the top of the Dutch market. Jelle Drok studied Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft before reading law in Leiden, where he graduated cum laude. For twenty years he has represented international companies in disputes where the facts are often as technical as the law itself – patent proceedings and technology-driven commercial cases in sectors ranging from life sciences and semiconductors to telecoms – frequently coordinating proceedings across several European countries at once. He joined Freshfields in 2006 and was a partner there from 2019 within the Dispute Resolution practice group.

Arvid van Oorschot has litigated at the highest level for more than twenty years, with extensive experience in patent disputes involving innovations in the life sciences, ICT and engineering sectors, as well as in intellectual property disputes for clients in the creative industries. He was previously a partner at Vondst Advocaten, counsel at Brinkhof, and an associate at Freshfields and Klos Morel Vos & Schaap. The firm notes that for well over a decade the independent legal directories Chambers, Legal 500, IAM Patent 1000 and JUVE have interviewed clients and other lawyers and, on the strength of what they hear, consistently rank its lawyers among the best in the Netherlands.
