ABG Intellectual Property has opened a new office in Granada, its fifth location in Spain alongside Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia. The firm announced the expansion on 15 September 2026.

According to the firm, the Granada office will be led by Juan Manuel Soto, who joined ABG IP in 2021. Soto holds a PhD in Physics and is qualified as both a Spanish Patent and Trademark Agent and a European Patent Attorney. According to the European Patent Office’s register of representatives, he is among a small number of European Patent Attorneys practising in Andalusia and the only one based in the province of Granada.
“Over the past several years, we have developed a significant client base in Andalusia, ranging from large corporations and innovative SMEs to leading research institutions,” said Juan Arias, Managing Partner at ABG Intellectual Property. “This expansion reflects our belief that high-value innovation increasingly takes place beyond traditional business centres. By strengthening our presence in the region, we are positioning ourselves closer to the organisations that will shape the next generation of technological and scientific developments.”
Soto said intellectual property has a role to play in helping regional innovation reach commercial markets. “Many of the advances developed in Andalusia have the potential to generate substantial economic and social value but do not always make the transition from research to commercial application,” he said. “Effective intellectual property strategies can help bridge that gap, supporting investment, business creation, employment and long-term industrial development.”
The firm describes the Granada opening as the latest step in a decentralised expansion strategy pursued over the past decade. Its Barcelona office, opened in 2007, will comprise nine IP professionals from October 2026. ABG IP established its Valencia office in 2024, while its Bilbao office has served clients in northern Spain since 2015.
