Elzaburu was recognized in the IAM Patent 1000 2026. The Spanish firm was ranked in the silver tier for both patent litigation and patent prosecution. The IAM Patent 1000 is an annual guide published by Intellectual Asset Management that identifies leading patent firms and practitioners across more than 40 jurisdictions. Rankings are based on independent market research, including interviews with peers and clients, and firms are grouped into gold, silver and bronze tiers within each practice category. A silver-tier placement across both prosecution and litigation reflects the guide’s assessment of a firm with an established practice on both sides of patent work in its market.

Patent prosecution covers the drafting, filing and maintenance of patent rights before national and regional offices, including the European Patent Office, while patent litigation concerns the enforcement and defence of those rights in contentious proceedings. The operation of the Unified Patent Court and the role of the specialised commercial courts in Barcelona and Madrid have kept Spanish patent litigation prominent in recent years. Firms ranked across both categories are recognized for maintaining capabilities that span the full life cycle of a patent.
Chambers and Co. since 2004.
Three of the firm’s practitioners were listed in the patent litigation category in the 2026 edition. Enrique Armijo Chávarri was named a silver-ranked individual for patent litigation. Carlos Morán received the same recognition, as did Colm Ahern. Individual recommendations in the IAM Patent 1000 are made separately from firm rankings and identify practitioners regarded by the market as leaders in their field. The listing of three of the firm’s litigators corresponds to its silver-tier ranking in the litigation category.
