Allen & Overy (A&O) and Shearman & Sterling (Shearman) have announced the first partner promotion

Allen & Overy (A&O) and Shearman & Sterling (Shearman) have announced the first partner promotions for their soon-to-be merged entity, A&O Shearman. The combined firm will welcome 40 new partners upon the merger’s completion on May 1, 2024. Of these, A&O has promoted 32 partners, while Shearman has added eight, reflecting the relative sizes and global reach of the two firms.

The newly promoted partners are spread across 15 offices in 11 countries. The promotions include 13 in the United States, nine in the United Kingdom, 13 across Continental Europe, one in the Middle East, and four in Asia.

Khalid Garousha, the interim managing partner at A&O, expressed enthusiasm for the new partners joining A&O Shearman, highlighting that 42% of the promotions are women, aligning with the firm’s diversity goals. He emphasized that the new partners bring substantial expertise, enhancing the firm’s service offerings in key markets.

Adam Hakki, senior partner at Shearman, congratulated the promoted lawyers, noting their exceptional talent and strong client service track records. He pointed out that the diversity, geographic spread, and wide-ranging expertise of the new partners underscore the quality and depth of the combined firm. Hakki is confident in their future successes and contributions to the firm.
