Björn Weidehaas and Philipp Schmitter have moved from LUTZ/ABEL to SGP Schneider Geiwitz. Since 1 September, Weidehaas has been a managing director of SGP Schneider Geiwitz Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH, working from the Ulm and Munich locations, while Schmitter has joined as an associate in Munich. According to the firm, the move strengthens its integrated advice in restructuring, insolvency law, distressed M&A and venture capital.
Weidehaas was previously an equity partner at his former firm, where he founded and led the restructuring and insolvency law practice group. For many years his work has focused on complex restructurings and insolvency proceedings, distressed M&A transactions, and venture capital and growth financing. He advises family offices, funds, business angels, start-ups and growth companies on financing rounds, acquisitions, takeovers and exits, with particular attention to technology-driven and fast-growing business models. SGP notes that he has been recommended by Best Lawyers for insolvency law since 2017 and for M&A since 2026, and that he is recommended by JUVE.

Schmitter previously worked in a restructuring and insolvency practice group at LUTZ/ABEL, where he was closely involved in advising companies in crisis, investors in special situations and the financing of start-ups and growth companies. The firm highlights his experience at the interface of insolvency law, venture capital and litigation.
With the two hires, SGP Schneider Geiwitz aims to link restructuring and insolvency law, transaction and M&A advice – particularly in special situations – and venture capital and growth financing more closely. The group works with a team of lawyers, auditors, tax advisers, corporate finance and restructuring specialists and describes itself as a one-stop shop for the companies it advises.
