Addleshaw Goddard is expanding its global presence by opening a new office in Madrid, led by 13 partners and their teams from King & Wood Mallesons (KWM). The Madrid office will officially open in May 2024 under the leadership of Roberto Pomares, KWM Madrid’s Managing Partner.

This strategic move aligns with the goals of incoming Managing Partner Andrew Johnston, who has been collaborating closely with John Joyce to ensure a seamless transition when Johnston’s term begins on May 1. The expansion into Spain represents a strategic and cultural alignment, reflecting a mutual commitment to delivering impactful business solutions for clients across Spain, Europe, and beyond.

The new Madrid office marks Addleshaw Goddard’s presence in Spain, the fourth-largest economy in the European Union, and brings the total number of AG offices worldwide to 19, including eight in continental Europe and Ireland. This expansion allows AG to offer comprehensive services to blue-chip, international, and domestic clients in major European business hubs.

The Madrid team brings strong expertise in sectors such as funds, private equity, energy, financial services, real estate, retail, and technology. This addition complements AG’s recent acquisition of a four-partner energy team from EY in Berlin and the continued growth of its EMEA Funds practice.

Andrew Johnston emphasized the importance of integrated cross-border legal services and expressed excitement about the strategic fit and shared values with the new Spanish team. He highlighted that this expansion will enable AG to provide full-service legal support in another key European market, benefiting both new and existing clients.

Roberto Pomares shared his enthusiasm about joining Addleshaw Goddard, citing the shared passion for innovative legal service delivery. He expressed confidence that the collaboration will enhance their ability to meet client needs and compete effectively in both local and international markets.

The Madrid office will offer a wide range of legal services, including Corporate, Commercial, Dispute Resolution, Employment, Energy, Finance, IP, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Tax, across various sectors such as energy, investment funds, financial institutions, industrials, real estate, retail, and TMT.

This new opening follows AG’s expansion into Berlin in January 2024, marking its fourth German office since 2019. Additionally, AG has opened offices in Paris, Dublin, and Luxembourg since 2021, and will also establish a presence in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2024.
