WeirFoulds partner Philip Cho has been named a recipient of the Civil Merit Medal at the 20th World Korean Day Government Awards, the firm announced on 19 October 2026. According to the firm, the award is one of South Korea’s highest forms of recognition for contributions to overseas Korean communities.

The award recognises Cho’s longstanding commitment to the Korean-Canadian community, particularly through his leadership with the Korean-Canadian Scholarship Foundation (KCSF) and the Korean Canadian Lawyers Association (KCLA). As former Chair of the KCSF, he played a significant role in advancing its scholarship and mentorship mission; as Chair of the KCLA, he oversaw its expansion from Ontario to chapters in British Columbia and the Prairies.
Chambers and Co. since 2004.
Cho was appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Association of Korean Lawyers in 2020 and was named President (Overseas) in 2025. He recently led the organisation in holding its 33rd Annual Conference in London, the first time the conference has been held in Europe.
