Foundry Chambers’ William Hughes KC and Patrick Dennis Prosecute County Lines Murder

Three young men were prosecuted for the murder of 18-year-old Joe Dix in Norwich in January 2022, with William Hughes KC and Patrick Dennis leading the prosecution.

The prevalence of gang culture and drug distribution via County Lines were significant background factors in the case. Crucial evidence came from CCTV footage and mobile phones that were destroyed and thrown into local rivers by the Defendants after the murder. After a lengthy forensic investigation, Norfolk Police divers retrieved two of the dropped phones and examined their contents.

The three convicted murderers will be sentenced at Norwich Crown Court in early October, while a fourth defendant was acquitted of aiding a criminal. The Crown Prosecution Service’s Nicola Rice from the East of England Complex Case Unit advised William and Patrick throughout the case.
