Gleiss Lutz advises Volkswagen on Rivian joint venture

Rivian Automotive and the Volkswagen Group have entered into a transaction agreement. They will create a new joint venture called “Rivian and VW Group Technology, LLC.” The total deal size is up to USD 5.8 billion.

The joint venture began on 13 November. The companies aim to develop next-generation electrical architecture and top-tier software for future electric vehicles. This will cover all relevant vehicle segments, including subcompact cars.

In June 2024, Gleiss Lutz advised the supervisory board of Volkswagen on the company’s billion-euro investment in Rivian Automotive.

The Gleiss Lutz team was led by Prof. Dr. Michael Arnold and Dr. Vera Rothenburg. Both are partners at the Stuttgart office. They were joined by Dr. Adrian Bingel, Dr. Nicholas Brand, Hanna Rogg, Dr. Julian Aicher, Dr. Silke Hoffmann, Dr. Jan-David Geiger, and Lucca Kaiserauer, all from Stuttgart. Dr. Matthias Gärtner, from Düsseldorf, also contributed. Other team members included Pia Schneider, Daniela Plato, Dr. Stefan Weidert, Christian Eulenpesch, Dr. Katja Lehr, Dr. Christian Hamann, and Simon Wegmann.
